Purpose of Condition Reports
Condition reports provide detailed descriptions of the physical condition of an item, including wear, damage, restorations, and alterations. These reports help bidders make informed decisions and set appropriate expectations.
All lots include a condition statement in the catalog description. More detailed reports are available upon request for items of significant value or complexity.
What We Inspect
Our specialists examine every item under proper lighting and, when necessary, using magnification. We assess:
- General condition and structural integrity
- Surface condition (scratches, stains, fading, discoloration)
- Evidence of repair, restoration, or alteration
- Completeness (missing parts, replaced elements)
- Functionality (for mechanical objects)
- Signs of age-appropriate wear vs. damage
Disclosure Standards
We disclose all condition issues that materially affect value or usability. This includes cracks, chips, losses, repairs, repainting, replaced parts, and structural weakness.
Minor wear consistent with age and use may not be detailed individually but acknowledged in general terms such as "minor surface wear" or "age-appropriate patination".
We do not guarantee that condition reports are exhaustive. Buyers are encouraged to inspect items in person or request additional photos of specific areas of concern.
Requesting Additional Information
If you need more detailed condition information, contact the specialist department handling the auction. We can provide:
- Additional photos (detail shots, reverse, base, interior)
- Measurements and dimensions
- Clarification on specific condition issues
- Information on previous conservation or restoration
Requests should be submitted well in advance of the auction close to allow time for inspection and response.
Viewing Appointments
For high-value items or items where condition is critical, we recommend arranging a viewing. In-person inspection allows you to assess condition, scale, color, and quality more accurately than photos allow.
Contact us to schedule a viewing appointment. We will accommodate your schedule whenever possible.
Limitations
Condition reports reflect our experts' opinion based on visual inspection. We do not conduct scientific testing, X-ray analysis, or destructive testing unless stated otherwise.
Hidden defects, internal damage, or issues not visible to the naked eye may not be detected or reported. Buyers bid at their own risk and are responsible for their own due diligence.
Sold As Is
All items are sold as is, where is, with all faults. Condition reports are provided as a service and do not constitute a warranty or guarantee.
Returns are only accepted in cases of material misrepresentation as defined in our Terms of Service. Normal wear, undisclosed minor flaws, or difference of opinion regarding condition do not constitute grounds for return.
